10 years ago I was 19 years old and in college. Studying and partying were a big part of my life, and getting a car was my number one priority.
9 years ago, while attending college, I got a job as a TV host on a local channel and started saving up for a car. This is also the year that my mom was diagnosed with cancer.
8 years ago I got my car. I was the only one in my family to attend my brother’s middle school graduation- it was a big day for him. Mom’s condition was getting worse. I went to my favorite beach town, Cancun, for the first time.
7 years ago I started my second job as an intern while attending college. I got my first paycheck from an office.
I traveled to the most mystical place ever called Xilitla, Mex, and also visited for the first time the capital of my country, Mexico City. I graduated from college, had a party for it and attended two more of my classmates’ graduation parties.
6 years ago I found myself with a new group of friends and a new job. I got introduced to yoga for the first time and fell in love with it instantly. My brother graduated from high school- a big day for the family. I visited Cuarto Ciénagas, Coahuila for the first time and loved it. I visited New York for the first time and had a blast.
5 years ago I decided to spend a couple of months in the U.S. and study English. I did my first trip alone. Mom died this year, and I went back to Mexico for a while. I came back to the U.S. later in the year.
4 years ago I got my first job in the United States in social media marketing. I got my first work visa and life started looking better, but then I went through a big breakup and felt lost.
3 years ago I got my first apartment living by myself in the middle of downtown Dallas. I made new friends. The United States finally felt like home. I met the best person in the world, and we became best friends.
2 years ago, my best friend asked me to be his girlfriend, and since then we have been together. I changed jobs to work at an advertising agency where I have learned a lot and had a lot of fun. I visited Canada for the first time with my friends, and we discovered new things. I developed a new group of friends that have been very supportive of the years to follow.
1 year ago I made my first trip to Europe with my friends, and it made me so happy. My boyfriend and I officially moved in together in the apartment of my dreams. I visited San Fransisco with my boyfriend for the first time, and we had a lot of fun.
This year I traveled to New York twice, went to Marfa, Texas, Tulum, Mexico, and the Bahamas. I enjoyed the company of my family, boyfriend, and friends. I met new, special people that will be forever in my soul and whom I will continue to grow.
Looking back on the past 10 years I feel grateful to be surrounded by such amazing people that have supported me in different periods of my life. I’m thankful for the good and the bad moments. I love that I have a family that shares my happiness and is proud of the person that I am.
