I went to NYC these past days, and all I have to say is that you need to go check out the “Fearless Girl” statue in the financial district.
The “Fearless Girl” statue unexpectedly appeared in 2017 on International Woman’s Day. Her appearance in front of the famous “Charging Bull” was meant to symbolize female empowerment and resiliency, while also calling to attention of the lack of gender diversity on corporate boards.
This statue is beyond beautiful- it’s a realistic representation of a little girl and an inspiration to everyone. It makes me happy to be in the advertising industry and see how a great campaign can bring about topics that people avoid but need to be addressed.
The two female creatives who brought this piece of art to life explain why they chose a bronze statue as opposed to traditional media ads. One of the biggest reasons they stated was that in a world and industry so obsessed with technology, a statue, one of the oldest forms of communication, has the opportunity to create a truly tangible piece of art that can last forever- a rarity in advertising.
The statue was originally located in front of the famous “Charging Bull,” but now you can find its permanent home facing the New York Stock Exchange, and it couldn’t be a better spot.
Now it’s your turn to support the cause. Take your picture and spread the word!
